Courvoisier Cognac

Stephanie Mills, National Courvoisier Ambassador
A native of Brooklyn, NY, Stephanie Mills, an only child, and her mother relocated to Plainsboro NJ in her adolescent years. Stephanie earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing from the Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park in 2002 while working for several Fortune 500 corporations as an INROADS intern each summer, and as a Resident Assistant through her last two years of college. Throughout college, Stephanie was also involved in several student government organizations, as well as modeling and dancing, which have always been personal passions.

As a child, Stephanie developed an early passion for traveling while visiting family in St. Thomas of the Virgin Islands. Upon college, her love of entertaining people continued, while she grounded herself in a career with McNeil Consumer Products Company (a Johnson & Johnson company) outside of Philadelphia, PA. Her positions at McNeil CPC required that she relocate to several cities throughout a two-year Sales Leadership & Development Program in which she received experience as a Consumer Insights Analyst, Marketing Associate, and Customer Analyst working with Accounts such as Target and Walgreen’s in Minneapolis, MN and Deerfield, IL respectively.   The brands of focus within those roles were Tylenol®, Motrin®, Mylanta®, Imodium AD®, Pepcid AC®, and Mylicon®.   While at McNeil CPC, Stephanie attended Mixology School in Philadelphia, and used bartending as a way to entertain and meet new people.

After spending three years with McNeil CPC, In 2005 Stephanie decided to return to the New York City area to be near her mother, a 9/11 survivor. She soon shifted careers by pursuing her passion for modeling and fashion, and began working as a fit model for several designers. During this time, she continued bartending in upscale lounges and bars to continue to entertain and meet new people. The role of the U.S. Courvoisier Ambassador was presented to Stephanie soon after she stated the following: “I want a career in which I can travel, be myself, and inspire others through what I do.” The universe soon conspired to Stephanie’s wishes, and today she has the job of her dreams in which she does all she set out to do – and has continued to be inspired by her experiences and passion of Courvoisier everyday.

Throughout her extensive training in Jarnac, France with Courvoisier Master Blender, Jean-Marc Olivier and Global Ambassador, Pierre Szernovich, Stephanie was able to truly absorb the beauty and culture of France, the elegance and rich heritage of Courvoisier, and the dedication of the artisans that are committed to the cognac making process. During her stay, it became clear to Stephanie that in her role as the U.S. Courvoisier Ambassador, she would have the privilege to share all of her experience in sales, marketing, and bartending in such a way that could ignite the passion of Courvoisier in others. It is a role that Stephanie does not take lightly and one that she continues to feel honored to represent everyday.

Throughout her life Stephanie has always aspired for the very best for her life and for her family. Her tenacity and dedication with her involvements have always been executed with passion and faith, with the consistent goal of fulfillment and happiness in mind.  Her animated personality and keen business sense have well prepared her to continue to strive for greatness within herself, while inspiring others to “Find Greatness Within” themselves and within the finest cognac in the world, Courvoisier. Stephanie realizes that the stars aligned, and she has been given the opportunity to represent Courvoisier, a brand that is rooted in the same principles.

"Whiskey (Bourbon)"

Whiskey Professor, Bernie Lubbers, is a walking book on bourbon and a talker. This translates to him talking about bourbon an awful lot. A former comedian and star of his own one-man play, he is entertaining, and he can also tell you more about bourbon than you ever thought you could know. Bernie’s draw toward bourbon is natural, with his father working in a brewery for 45 years and his grandfather owning a saloon in Louisville. “Before you make whiskey, you’ve got to make beer,” Bernie says. Taking his bourbon education to the next level, he spent several weeks at the Jim Beam distillery in Kentucky. There he learned the intricacies of the bourbon-making process – from milling, to cooking, mashing, distilling, barreling, even rolling some barrels in the rackhouse and uncorking and dumping barrels. He saw it all firsthand. Beyond being an expert for Knob Creek ®, Bernie is also a master of reading bourbon labels. Reading labels? That’s right. There are more to labels than a name. You can find out where a bourbon is from, its age, proof, quality and much more. By knowing this, you can tell if a bourbon is good or bad, before even taking a sip. Bourbon tastings and events keep Bernie busy during the day – and usually the night – but you can still find him doing the occasional comedy gig.

“World peace thro’ whisky one dram at a time”

Simon Brooking, Master Ambassador- Laphroaig and Ardmore

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and a member of the Robertson Clan, Simon traces his roots back to the 13th Century and the Celtic Earls of Atholl. A well-known expert on Scotch whisky, Simon has worked for a number of leading Scotch distilleries, learning the art and science of distilling from the world’s foremost master distillers and blenders. For over 10 years, Simon has led hundreds of Scotch whisky tastings for consumers, bartenders and social organizations.  Both informing and entertaining, his presentations have made him an in-demand speaker and spokesperson. Simon’s love of Scotland’s Highlands and Islands has paved the way to his present position as the Master Ambassador for Ardmore and Laphroaig Single Malt Scotch whiskies.

John Campbell, Distillery Manager

Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is distilled on the remote island of Islay off the West coast of Scotland. John Campbell was named Laphroaig’s distillery manager in 2006, fulfilling a 12-year-old ambition.  He is the youngest distiller on the island and the first Ileach (native of Islay) to run Laphroaig in its 190 year history. Since joining Laphroaig in 1994, John has worked across the whole distilling process both at Laphroaig and in distilleries including Tormore, Miltonduff and Ardmore. In July 2001 John returned from Speyside to take up the post as Laphroaig's Brewer. He has since taken the lead to upgrade the distillery and produce a number of successful limited edition bottlings to support the 'Feis Ile' (Gaelic for Islay Festival). In addition to his role as Distillery Manager, John plays a lead role in promoting Laphroaig around the world. This includes running the distillery's "Friends of Laphroaig" program, which today boasts a 280,000 strong membership from over 150 countries. John Campbell grew up in the shadow of Laphroaig, and now, he's running the distillery! Established in 1815, Laphroaig is the world’s best selling Islay malt whisky and is known to be the most richly flavored of all Scotch whiskies. The distillery still owns its own peat moors and produces its own maltings. Its whisky maturation warehouses directly face the sea, which contributes to the very characterful whisky it produces.
